At River Horse Ranch The horse comes first. A capable horse asked clearly and fairly will try. Our goal is to help others learn how to ask. We don’t force, and we don’t punish a horse for not understanding. When a horse isn’t answering, we look first how the question was asked. Patience, feel, and good timing get further than pressure ever will. This is grounded in how the horse’s nervous system actually works. A horse has to feel safe before I can learn. When a horse is afraid, its survival brain takes over and thinking shuts down, so we work to keep the nervous system, calm and regulated. A settled horse can think, try, and retain what it learns.

My Mentors.

I credit much of my growth and understanding to the horsemen that have taken the time to share their experiences with me. I am always seeking opportunities to connect with like minded equestrians in the pursuit of better horsemanship. Below are a few, but not limited to, whom I have had the opportunity to work with and credit much of my growth to. Also, thanks mom for teaching me how to saddle a horse.
